A businessman at the turn of the century

H.D. Cotterell, Hamburg was founded in 1890 by Harry Dougan Cotterell. He was the son of the successful businessman Harry Cotterell from Liverpool, who made his fortune by trading with Nigeria. When his son became 24 years old he handed him £ 20.000 with the advice: „Harry, make the best of it!” Provided with this money and his father’s West-African connections he made the best of it and founded H.D. Cotterell in the newly established Hamburg Freeport. Since the establishment of this company it is family-owned and today managed by Thomas Douglas Cotterell representing the fifth generation.1890 til today – H.D. Cotterell has continuously improved its knowledge and keeps the technical equipment to the latest standards.
